Karl Jenkins – One World LIVE | UNESCO Concert for Peace 2023 | World Premiere Brucknerhaus Linz

Sir Karl Jenkins, one of the most performed living composers, conducts a massed ensemble of the World Orchestra for Peace, World Choir for Peace, HardChor and Musischen Borg Linz, the Stay at Home Choir, Singers of the Austrian Federal Youth Choirs and from around the world and soloists Ruby Hughes, Kathryn Rudge and Roderick Williams in the World Premiere of his stunning new creation One World. Virtual choirs, connected from more than 40 countries, will join the 400 live artists in the Brucknerhaus.

The work deals with a fragmented world - populist governments, epidemics, climate change, disregard for human rights, war - while at the same time heralding a vision of a peaceful and egalitarian planet. Formally, Jenkins follows the tradition of the mass setting, incorporating elements of different cultures and religions and finding inspiration in texts such as the Bible, the Hindu Gayatri mantra and works by the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, the Lebanese-American author Khalil Gibran and the librettist Carol Barratt.

One World has been commissioned by the World Choir for Peace and the World Orchestra for Peace and is dedicated by the Composer 'to UNESCO - in recognition and appreciation of more than 75 years of advocacy, through culture, for dialogue, peace and reconciliation'. The World Choir for Peace was founded in 2018 on the occasion of a memorial concert to commemorate the end of the First World War 100 years before. The World Orchestra for Peace was founded in 1995 by Sir Georg Solti and Charles Kaye, since when over 750 musicians from more than 70 countries have come together for 30 concerts, to reaffirm 'the unique strength of music as an ambassador for peace'.
