Eduardo Arroyo was a Spanish painter and scenographer. Best known for his parodic depictions of characters in flattened pictorial space, Arroyo's work draws inspiration from his time working as a caricaturist.
A politically active artist, most of his works reflect his opposition to the Franco-ruled Spain under which he grew up.
Born February 26, 1937 in Madrid, Spain, he first studied journalism before moving to Paris to pursue an artistic career and become a painter. Arroyo rose to fame in part through his involvement in costume and stage design in Paris, Berlin and Milan.
Today, his work can be found in the collections of, among others, MoMA in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao. Arroyo lives and works in Spain.
