H ταινία είναι ένα πλούσιο, έγχρωμο bio pic που καταπιάνεται με τον Τζερόμ Κερν (Γουόκερ), έναν από τους σημαντικότερους πιονέρους του Μπρόντγουεϊ. Η πιο χαρακτηριστική παραγωγή του ήταν το «Showboat». Με το τραγούδι «Ol’ man river» που γράφτηκε για το συγκεκριμένο μιούζικαλ κάνει το φινάλε της ταινίας ο Σινάτρα.
