Die Klage der Kaiserin (The plaint of the empress) is the only film directed by Pina Bausch*. She realized this movie in the late Eighties, with her company, the Tanztheater Wuppertal, shootingespecially in outdoors: we can see the wood and the countryside, the suburbs and the city. The dancers invest Wuppertal, the town where they work every day, with their poetic and their sceniccharacters; their actions have an illogical and alienating effect because they are totally in contrast to the places, the time, the music. Urban and rural spaces are changed and charged with a dramaticsense while, at the same time, they affect the interior landscape of the dancers, who are absorbed in it, and often lost in it.
