« What really makes sense in art is joy. You don't need to understand. What you see makes you happy? It's all there. -Constantin Brancusi »
Isabelle Derecque is a Belgium-based artist whose paintings have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Her choice to work mainly with mirror (i.e. Plexiglas) is more than just aesthetic. For Isabelle, it is an invitation to explore the space around us by projecting ourselves into a perspective, creating our own setting.
She takes us to mysteriously colourful places. Calm and serene spaces that seem lost in time and devoid of life. And yet...Then, a movement is created and the mirrored areas start to animate the painting thanks to the reflections of the light. These cheerful and energetic colours reassure us in this unknown journey. Change and evolution are essential to his artistic expression. Since the beginning of 2022, twenty paintings from the "Sunshine Pop!" series have been in the collection of the newly opened Deji Museum of Contemporary Art in Nanjing, China.
